Patricia Cornwell

In order

Postmortem (1990)

A good one. How could I resist when it was $.50 at the thrift store. Unexpected twist at the end. I bet you can't tell who done it 'till the end.

Body of Evidence

(1991)

Beryl, Key West multiple homicides. Great.

All That Remains (1992)

The Jack of Hearts, the CIA, what else do you want.

Cruel and Unusual (1993)

Could they have executed the wrong man?

The Body Farm (1994)

I don't really know where the name came from as the body farm didn't come into the story 'till near the end. It was an enjoyable read but I think I'm about to try another author. I see Tim, my youngest brother, let a few books around and one of them looks interesting.

From Potter's Field (1995)

Another great one. And they are still using pagers and pay phones, how quaint!

Cause of Death (1996)

Terrorists, near death experiences for Scarpetta, you'll like it.

Unnatural Exposure (1997)

I real who done it I didn't figure out until the end.

Point of Origin (1998)

A solid tear jerker, even for an old fart like me. One of her best but don't read it first.

Black Notice (1999)

Werewolves of all things!

The Last Precinct (2000)

Le Loup-Garou again and this time Scarpetta is accused of murder!

Trace (2004)

Since I love Bones on the tube, I downloaded this book to the Kindle and was thoroughly swept away for a couple of days. Cops and robbers stuff with a little science thrown in. Great little read.

Book of the Dead (2007)

This one is good. Set mostly in South Carolina. Good right to the end.

Scarpetta (2008)

So this Christmas (2008) my dear Sister-in-law Susan did what they say you should do. She gave me something I would never buy for myself. She bought me this book when it was new hardback only. I am the perpetual cheapskate. This book was a great read. A murder mystery with of all things, dwarfs. You'll love it.

Port Mortuary (2010)

Thanks to my dear sister in law Susan, I got the latest Cornwell book for Christmas. I think this one has a lot more fluff than her others. Slower to get to the point, I was tempted to skim ahead to get to the mea of the matter.

The Andy Brazil Series

Southern Cross (1999)

I said something to my brother Tim about Trace and how I loved it and he said he's been reading her a lot. I borrowed the paperback from him and have just finished it. Older than the first book of hers but I think I'll be reading a lot more of Cromwell.

Isle of Dogs (2001)

Absolutely different than her other works but delightful. Parts about Tangier Island hit close to home as I live right beside the Chesapeake Bay.

Joe Bageant

Dear Hunting With Jesus

So why would white working poor in this country vote Republican when it is contrary to their economic intrests? Read the book and find out.

Mike Gancarz

Linux and the Unix Philosophy

This one will stay on the bookshelf. If you have one geek bone in your body or you just wondered what all this Linux stuff is about, this book is well worth the time.

Tess Gerritsen

The Bone Garden

Recommended by my Doctor. It was very good and a touch of medical history included. Next time a Doctor tell you it's standard procedure, tell them it wasn't that long ago the Doctor not washing their hands was standard procedure.

Sue Grafton

"A" is for Alibi

New author, Kinsey Millhone is the detective. Great so far..

"B" is for Burgler

Kinsey is at it again. Short book great read.

"C" is for Corpse

Good one again!

"D" is for Deadbeat.

The story starts out with the client writing Kinsey a bum check.

John Grisham

The Partner

Mystery with a twist at the end. I think I'll read more of his.

Skipping Christmas

A tiny little book quite unlike the rest of his. Halfway thru, a girl in the office told me they made a movie out of it. I don't go to the movies much.

Chalmers Johnson

Blowback: The Costs and Consequences of American Empire
The Sorrows of Empire: Militarism, Secrecy, and the End of the Republic
Nemesis: The Last Days of the American Republic

A trilogy I finished up around February 2008. If you are the investing type, as am I, you'll want to buy gold coins and keep them in a sack under the bed after reading this. I've been through too many calamities to alter my investing style now but even if one tenth of what's in here is true, you'll look at these United States through different eyes.

James Howard Kunstler

The Long Emergency

An absolute downer. End of the world as you know it type stuff. I am sure it will all happen but there is this little matter of timing. I don't think I'll see it.

Maggie Mahar

Money Driven Medcine

The real reason health care costs so much. Read this book and stop listening to the blurbs in the news.

Robert Parker

Night Passage

This time I have decided to read this author's books in order. This is the first of the Jesse Stone novels. A great detective writer.

Trouble In Paradise

Jesse saves the day and beds pretty women, as usuall

T. Jefferson Parker

The Blue Hour

A straight up detective novel with a twist. I didn't know it but this book has a sequel.

Donald Ray Pollock

Knockemstiff

I heard an interview with the author on PBS and that evening downloaded the book to my Kindle. Blew through it in a couple of days. Don't read this if you are of the Puritan persuasion. Very colorful and a look at a life I'm sure some people are living today. This is the authors first book and I look forward to his next effort. Fabulous!

Aline Countess of Romanones

The Spy Wore Red

The memoirs of an honest to goodness spy in WWII. The truth is indeed as strange as fiction.

Kathy Reichs

Bones to Ashes

Girlhood friends who dissapeared, Acadia and it's people, well worth the read.

Cross Bones

Religion, murder, the real Bones.

Death DuJour

Lots of twists and turns. I loved it.

206 Bones

I liked it just as all the others. and Tempe is buried alive.

David Shields

The Thing About Life Is That One Day You'll Be Dead

Being 56 this book answered many questions about aging I never asked. You don't think your father or uncle will give you the straight skinny do you? It's all in here. Written in a delightful style and to the point. I enjoyed the book so much I wrote a thank you email to the author which was promptly replied to. All in all, I'd suggest it to anyone, especially if you are on the backside so to speak. Read on the Kindle.

Stuart Woods

L.A. Dead

A great twist at the end. I know I've read at least one more of his, but it's not on the list.
