This is the cieling/roof of an office in the back of a store. Collapsed last night

The Coke machine caught it.

Yes folks, I've been off for an entire week and have mixed feeling about returning to work. I've worked since I could drive a tractor down on the farm and I guess these old bones aren't ready to quit just yet.
But the tan is really coming along :-)

So I just finished a little review of my home page stats. They show the keywords people search and the search engines they used to find their way. Google is absent in all the keyword searches by there are mutiple hits from Google's image search. What's up with that!

I am positively fuming. Today in our near worthless local paper, The Virginian Pilot, the Business section has an article titled "Visiting Dollars". The article goes on to say how Virginia Beach "earned" $350 million from tourism. No mention of how much the taxpayers anted up to help generate that cash. It's like a balance sheet with only income showing and no expenses.
This rubbish belongs in the Entertainment section where people can't count, much less read an annual report
Our local paper has become little more than cheerleader for the local governments and businesses. I say it deserves a slow and agonizing death as their subscriptions evaporate along with the generation who are used to the paper having a monopoly of news and ideas in this town.
Maybe they can live off the gaudy car ads.

Lazy Sunday around here. Lately been using Ubuntu. I've a bit of Linux experience, since RedHat 5.0 and an older Mandrake whose version I cannot remember. Unbuntu is getting verrry close. I always HATED the fonts. Call me crazy.
I'm using Dapper Drake "Flight 7" and it's quite usable for the desktop. With the additional download of AbiWord I'm even able to print envelopes, something I never could figure out with Open Office. I guess all that's left is to figure out how to burn DVD's and a few other tasks. It lacks a tape backup interface as far as I can tell, but I guess I should remember the audience for this distro.

Home today as the stenosis has been really acting up. I put up with it for the last two days using 2400 mg. of ibuprofen and 1000 mg. of Vicoden per day, but today, it's rest. Sit for a while then walk around for a while. So far this is the worst flareup. Here's hoping three days rest will calm it down enough to return to work.

I voted yesterday and Virginia Beach has new voting machines. The kind they've quit using other places. I guess the goons on City Council want it to be eaiser to "fix things"

The news at work yesterday was the the fellow I work with at work, Bob Garrett, has accepted a new position. That leaves the Fire Protection Engineer's position open. For a while I guess I'll have to do both jobs or as much as I can of them.
Bob was a very knowledgeable professional and I'll miss working with him very much. His new position is still in our office so I'm sure he'll help out during the transition.

No one called at the office for an inspection today, NO ONE! So I came home at 10:00. Probably not such a bad idea considering my back started really started acting up Saturday. The worst it's been yet. It's back on the medication for now, and I was doing so well.

On the way home this evening, It looked as though the $2.50 a gallon with the threat of $3.00 has begun to take it's toll. There were defiantly fewer really big SUVs. Seemed to more mini vans then monsters on the road. What will they be driving when it goes to $10.00 and beyond?
DeskTask gave it up last night. I stopped keeping track of Outlook appointments. If I were to reboot It would probably straiten out but since it's the household server, I don't reboot it much. A single PC in a world of Macs!

Seems a though Blogger's image upload has taken a dump right now so I'll try later. Oh yea, I found out Google Pages has a 100MB storage limit. Nice for a personal page.
Sixty five degrees and sunny here today. Not quite "lay by the pool" weather, but a long way from the weather the last few weeks. It would be a perfect day but I just finished paying the taxes from selling the farm. It was enough to buy a nice house and then some if you weren't in this inflated real estate market.
A couple of week's ago I was lucky enough to score one of those Google Pages . I still don't know the particulars about disk space and transfer quota, but I'll keep you informed.
